Well this is a tough one. I've also tried ways in my own articles to try to get people to "talk back" or comment, but the internet is a very passive media and I think it is tough.

Ultimately, for me I comment on items that stir me in some way. Or resonate with something I identify with or feel strongly about. But, I'm not sure how to elicit the same feelings in others so they would also respond, or leave comments (otherwise I'd have been doing it LOL).

I will say though that one of the most successful things I've seen online, in trying to get people to provide their opinions, is Jack Cafferty's site. Here, I think the pull is the potential to have your thoughts published on live national TV. What would be the parallel that could duplicate that type of response?

I think your assessments here are fair. I have seen over the last few years, how even websites like CNN.com and other big-name media sources, seem to be trying to adjust to our "global" world. On CNN, I notice now that most articles just indicate (CNN), when the event isn't from an obvious location.

So, it can be confusing, but I think what you've suggested here makes sense! Ultimately, the idea is one should not just always put their own city/state just because they are writing the article.

You know, I wrote about similarities between Doolittle and Palin, but the more I think about the similarities between Palin and Eva Peron, the more I think Evita might fit more, here's why:

Eva KNEW from early on she wanted to be something big. I think Palin has thought the same thing for some time. Doolittle, on the other hand, just wanted to be a "good little girl".

Also, Eva knew the power her looks and appeal had on regular people. She used that with men, then allowed them to use that with large groups, both through radio and eventually, as an actress.

Plus, Eva always made sure she was at the right place at the right time, just like Palin has (recent accounts indicate that her rise in the party had been hinted at just after her Gubernatorial election). Palin knew where her looks and charisma could take her, and knows how to capitalize on it - so did Eva.

But unlike Palin, Eva had a very wide base of support - that support came from everyday, average, working-class people, not the extremists that Palin appeals to.

So in the end, my analysis is - Palin wants to be like Eva, loved by all and put into a position of huge power. But, she'll end up being more like Doolittle, dressed up with nowhere to go, but knowing she never wants to go back to the way things used to be.
